Yoga Etiquette

Yoga Etiquette

Be on time for class. Each class is designed with a beginning, middle and end. The beginning of each class, including the Bikram style, starts with a ritual. The first breath you take is the most important! Make this a habit, as habits are hard to break!

Know the type of class you are attending. Come prepared mentally for what you are about to do. Our website is informative regarding descriptions and recommendations for first-timers, et al.

Be equipped with what you need to do class. All students must have a yoga mat, a large towel or 2 bath-size towels and plenty of drinking water. All the above can be rented or purchased at the front desk!

Bring into the studio room your mat, towels and water only! Do not take personal belongings into the studio room, i.e. keys, bags, cell phones, shoes, jackets, etc. We provide cubbies for your personal belongings.

Be quiet when you enter and exit the studio room. This is practiced in respect to those who are meditating before class, as well as cooling down after class.

When leaving the studio room after class, do not drag your mat and all your belongings behind you, but rather gather them into your arms. This is asked of to keep the noise down as you leave and to avoid creating puddles of water on the floor that may have been created from excessive detoxing.

Let the teacher know of any injuries you have before the class beings, or any reason you may be modifying your practice. This is in respect to the teachers and students, so that a disturbance of energetic flow is not created, but rather simulated into the class.

During the class, if you need to stop for any reason, sit or lie down on your mat instead of leaving the room. You are not expected to perform everything that is offered in the classes if you are not able, but for the energetic flow created from the beginning of class, to get up and leave the room for something other than a dire emergency interrupts the established flow.

If you know when you arrive that you must leave early for a prior commitment, let the teacher know before class begins. The teacher will then create an opportunity for you to leave. Try not to make a habit of leaving early, as habits are hard to break!

Commit to practicing at least 3 times a week. Make this a habit, as habits are hard to break! Allow yourself to enjoy your practice. Seek the class, or classes, that you enjoy the most and do them as often as possible.

Keep your heart and mind open to explore your interior landscape. Do not become attached to the exterior.

Love your neighbor, or the person you are practicing next to. He/she may need to borrow your energy for class that day.

Help us keep our studio and yoga family a safe haven for all.
